When costume designer Edie Kurzer was crafting the jacket Judy (Mia Wasikowska) wears while performing in puppet shows, she had to create not only something bold that would set the star apart, but also something that would fit the character Polly (Lucy Velik). This meant Kurzer needed to design a piece that would fit two different builds. A double of the jacket with just the sleeves was also made for stand-in puppeteers, who were filmed during close-ups of the characters’ hands. Having a second costume for stand-ins saves time while shooting so that the main actor doesn’t need to stop working to give a double their costume.
