Expertly blending the visual novel and gaming genres, Florence illustrates one year in the life of a young woman in Melbourne as she falls in love, breaks her daily routine and follows her creative passion.
Developed by Australian craft games studio Mountains, Florence uses innovative gameplay mechanics to represent social interactions. The emotions of the poignant narrative are rendered through tapping and swiping minigames, making them all the more touching.
In this series of interviews, the developers at Mountains speaks about the studio’s foundation and introduces the staff, describing itself as a ‘craft game studio’. Florence is introduced as a result of this craft, as the studio seeks to create an aesthetically beautiful and moving piece of art, and not simply a game.
