Kenneth Carruthers Rankine (1890 - 1968) was a keen amateur cinematographer and filmmaker. This collection of his home movies has been donated to ACMI by Kenneth’s granddaughter. The collection represents a wonderful slice of life in Australia; with contents including scenes of everyday life, major family occasions, holidays around Victoria and views of Melbourne.
In this home movie, we see footage of Wirth’s Circus, including acrobats, trained elephants and horses, and trapeze artists, followed by footage of Luna Park in Melbourne.
The film then travels to Adelaide, meeting the arrival of ‘The Overland’ train from Melbourne, followed by visits to Torrens Lake, Koala Bear Park and Torrens Gorge.
The final section of the film shows the ANZAC March in Melbourne (1938) and a family road trip to Sassafras in the Dandenongs.
