In the world of WipEout, anti-gravity racing is the world’s most popular sport. Tracks stretch out across the world and research is focused on finding even better and faster race craft. Racing for one of four corporations, the player competes to win the prestigious F3600 Anti-Gravity Racing League. Each corporation’s craft has its own strengths and weaknesses, which are further complicated by the choice of different pilots. Races aren’t simply affairs of speed and manoeuvring. The tracks are littered with weapons and powerups to hinder opponents or aid the player.
The game has three modes. Championship has the player attempting to place in the top three of each class, before proceeding to the next. If a player beats this mode in as the top of the Venom class, Rapier class, with tougher opponents, will be unlocked. Single Race pits the player against a full field of pilots in a single track. Time Trail is like single race, but without weapons.
