Influencer and former Love Island contestant, Molly- Mae Hague, faced backlash after a clip of her talking about her work ethic went viral. During a podcast interview she implied that poverty is linked to laziness, claiming that “everyone has the same 24 hours”.
At a moment when people are suffering the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, including the inability to work because of lockdowns and quarantine orders (not to mention inequality growing globally), the comment was more than a little tone deaf.
As the Mirror reports: “Many others fumed over the fact that Molly-Mae claims she works hard when she was appointed Creative Director of Pretty Little Thing which is a company that is owned by Boo Hoo Group – who got busted in 2020 for ‘modern day slavery’ for paying employees just £3.50 per hour.”
