Russian President Vladimir Putin has ordered troops into the two Russian-controlled areas of Ukraine on “peacekeeping duties”. Western European leaders and the US continue to attempt to negotiate a peaceful outcome for Ukraine, but the presence of 190,000 Russian troops at the border is keeping the tension at boiling point. Is the Russian leader engaging in high-stakes political theatrics to prove a point to Nato, or is he going to take Ukraine and possibly other former USSR nations back under Russian control by force?
