The continuity folder ensures that costumes look exactly as they should in each scene, and documents seemingly minor costume changes that communicate so much about a character’s emotional state. In a miniseries like Picnic at Hanging Rock (2018), where the same costumes are used in a wide variety of settings, continuity is crucial. In their first appearance, the missing girls look prim and proper in their white dresses, but as they reappear in dreams, memories, and later scenes, these costumes look less put-together, and more ethereal. They lose layers of costumes between scenes, from stockings and gloves to entire overskirts – all of which is carefully documented here.
