Mighty Thor costume and Mjölnir

When it came to the Mighty Thor (Natalie Portman), costume designer Mayes C Rubeo decided to go old school: “The Mighty Thor is the female version of Thor,” Mayes said. “Therefore, we took details from Thor, like the disc, as well as a black and red heart cuirass, red cape and helmet, which has the vintage feel of the old comic books.”

The result is a bold, armoured costume that mirrors Thor’s own, emphasising Jane Foster’s strength and abilities, not just her femininity. Mighty Thor actor Natalie Portman praised Rubeo’s consideration of the physical nature of the role: “we started fittings early on and she really listened to my feedback about what felt good, so I could move and do the stunts I needed to do.”
