The collapse of a building during the recent earthquake that devastated Turkey and Syria – or is it?
While posted alongside other videos of the event, this one is a building in Japan losing its scaffolding several years ago. Unlike traditional news media, where journalists are trained to check their facts, social media responses to disasters may be immediate but they can also be inaccurate. On the upside, some people who were trapped in collapsed buildings in the earthquake used social media to alert friends, family and rescuers to come to their aid. This video was removed a couple of days after being posted.
