In The Dressmaker, Gertrude is the first character that Tilly (Kate Winslet) transforms through her skill as a designer and dressmaker. Gertrude’s metamorphosis from dowdy shop assistant to a sexy siren, leads the rest of the town’s women to seek Tilly’s help in making their own sartorial sensations.
