Is being an artist like being a non-playable character (NPC) in a violent videogame like Grand Theft Auto? According to artists Teether and Kuya Neil, maybe. The duo performs ‘RENO’ as if they’re being controlled by an unseen player – running aimlessly across a carpark rooftop, getting stuck like they’re glitching and answering quests on a phone. And their quest is securing an arts grant. When they’re not successful, Vietnamese Australian rapper Sriracha knocks them out while game-over style text appears on-screen. Director Kalanjay Dhir achieves the GTA aesthetic with drone photography and motion graphics, proving that even without grant money, artists can still win.
