Sampa the Great asks us to find collective power by balancing our masculine and feminine energies in this music video. Channelling her Zambian roots, soft rhythmic humming flows through her powerful rhymes and call to “Big up that energy” – an acknowledgement of the value and contribution of women to the world. It’s further reinforced by an interlude from London collective Steamdown’s Nadeem Din Gabisi and the creatives of colour who join her on-screen and behind the scenes. The lyrics and music video weaves the power and iconography of her African heritage with old-school hip-hop minimalism, creating a space where all can prosper.
