With his ironic analysis of rental property listings, @PurplesPingers has become a symbol of Australia’s frustration with the housing crisis. Using just a smartphone, screenshots and deadpan delivery, the activist and lawyer dissects misleading and exaggerated property listings, exposing the shoddy practices of real estate agencies and the dodgy conditions renters face. With over 4.3m likes on TikTok, he’s been invited to comment on the crisis on traditional media. Though conservative hosts can be combative, the activist maintains his wry detachment, using logic and the law to undermine their arguments.
