Moor Mother is Philadelphia-based Afrofuturist musician and poet Camae Ayewa. On ‘Umzansi’, taken from 2022’s Jazz Codes album, she reworks a poem from her Black Quantum Futurism writing project and invokes Black sonic histories from Coltrane to Chicago footwork, drawing a through line from African colonialism, and into a new united future.
