Winner of a BAFTA for Best Special Visual Effects, Poor Things creates a world that feels both surreal and lifelike. The twisted, hybrid animals were crafted by pairing real creatures in uncanny combinations, ensuring they looked “not quite right” yet seamlessly fused. Giant LED screens projected immersive environments to evoke early cinema techniques, blending digital effects with hand-crafted miniatures. Lidar scans of these miniatures became the foundation for CG landscapes, including cable cars, sky and water. This mix of old Hollywood artistry and cutting-edge VFX creates Poor Things’ dreamlike, sci-fi aesthetic.
