Eddie’s Lil Homies is inspired by My Kind and My People, books by AFL legend Eddie Betts (Wirangu/Kokatha/Guburn). Eddie wrote them to spark conversations about First Nations cultures and promote kindness and literacy. Growing up, he struggled with reading and writing, enrolling in literacy classes when he joined Carlton Football Club at 18.

The animatic featured in the video is from “Episode 2: Rock Paper Scissors”, where Eddie helps his friend Tal win a game of ‘rock, paper, scissors’. Animatics are rough animated sequences created from storyboard images. They help animators and directors plan movement, timing and character interactions before final animation.

A team of artists designed the characters, backgrounds and schoolyard setting for the show. In the clips, co-director Luke Jurevicious explains the animation process, showing how character sketches (on display), landscapes and animatics come together to create the final episode.
