This video by YouTuber Zuchini has over 8 million views, remixing one of gaming’s earliest memes: “All your base are belong to us.” The phrase comes from Zero Wing (1989), a Japanese arcade shooter whose 1992 Mega Drive port featured an awkward English translation. By 2000, it had spread across TribalWar and Something Awful forums, sparking thousands of Photoshopped images, Flash animations and remixes like the song ‘Invasion of the Gabber Robots’. News coverage and public stunts followed, from TV broadcasts to university hacks, cementing “All Your Base” as a turning point in meme culture.
