Celeste (2018) is a game about continuing onwards, even when things are tough. Created by Noel Berry and Maddy Thorson just before Thorson’s gender transition, the game is a metaphor for a young woman facing struggles with mental health and identity, represented as one great task: climbing a mountain.
The game’s precise movement and challenging levels have drawn a passionate community of players who race through the mountain in speedruns, sharing strategies and competing for the fastest climbs. Celeste celebrates persistence, reflection, and skill, showing how a game can tell a deeply personal story while connecting people through play.
