Local horror film Late Night with the Devil (2023) is set on the fictional 1970s late-night talk show Night Owls with Jack Delroy. The film, shot as found footage during a Halloween special, follows spiritualists and sceptics – until things go horribly wrong, thanks to an uninvited supernatural guest.

Production Designer Otello Stolfo worked with the directors to accurately recreate the look of 1970s talk shows. From his original sketch shown here to the set’s palette of browns, oranges and blues, plus the patterns, finishes and dressings, Stolfo carefully recreated the style, tone and feel of Australian classics like The Don Lane Show (1975–83) and Countdown (1974–87), the latter of which he had worked on.

Filming in a Melbourne TV studio let the team use real floors and backstage areas, which added extra realism.
