Anamorphic illusion hide their true subjects in distorted perspectives. When viewed with a viewing cylinder they reveal recognisable images, with some even made to unveil their images when viewed from the right vantage point. Anamorphic drawings helped establish perspective in paintings, photography and special effects, and they also influenced the development of Cinemascope and widescreen in film.
