The third part of a massive trilogy dedicated to the youth of Poland in the Second World War. In this extract the action takes place in the late afternoon preceeding the Communist liberation. The hero, Maciek, leads the resistance group, which owes allegiance to the Polish National Government exiled in London. His orders are to assassinate the new Communist District Secretary, Szczuka. Based on the book “Ashes and diamonds” by Jerzy Andrzejewski.
