A lighthearted presentation of Germany’s inland waterways. Barges provide the cheapest form of transport, and carry one third of Germany’s goods. Follows the barges and their families on the highways and byways of the canals, showing the surrounding country-side; the many types of barges; the traffic problems; slow operating lochs, and customs and police inspections.
