The automobile is a serious polluter of the air and a major interruption to urban activities. So planners are looking at ways to change or limit the use of the conventional automobile in large cities, and to ease mass transit flow. Features William Lear’s 1975 steam car, a representative of the US EPA and John Esposito from the Ralph Nader Center for Study of Responsive Law, and Helen Leavitt, author of “Super-highway, super hoax”.
