In June 1974, a new United Nations peace-keeping force took up positions in the war torn Golan Heights. The force was called UNDOF - United Nations Disengagement Observer Force and its mandate, to observe that the ceasefire agreements, signed in Geneva by Israel and Syria, were adhered to.
