Recaptures the France of the stories of Hugo, Balzac, Maupassant and Poe. Showing scenes in Paris, Versailles, Fountainbleau, Orleans, Chateau d’If, Marseilles and Normandy, the film provides a background for existing literature but does not attempt to recreate the actual scenes of stories.
