Shows the fleet of the Australian National Line at work, shipping distant raw materials to centres of secondary industry. Forty-four ships call at fifty-three ports, some being specially fitted to carry a particular bulk cargo, such as semi-trailers on the ‘Bass Trader’. Cargo carried includes ironstone from Yampi Sound, softwoods from Stanley, and raw sugar from Townsville. Practical training of the crew is carried out on board under the captain’s supervision.
