Shows how the three aims of controlled irrigation can be achieved in furrow irrigation by putting the “correct flow” down the furrows so as to obtain even distribution of the water over the whole area and down to the depth of the root zone. The various factors which determine “correct flow” are briefly considered and finally the method whereby it may be obtained and checked is outlined.
