An overall introduction to the series. Provides a basic explanation of atomic energy. Animated sequences demonstrate the make-up, function, formation and controlled chain reaction. It shows the atomic pile at Los Alamos and the preparation and storage of radio-isotopes at Oak Ridge. Touches on the uses of atomic materials in medical research, agriculture and industry. The film ends with excerpts from President Eisenhower’s speech before the United Nations, emphasising America’s hopes and desires for International control of atomic energy dedicated to human welfare everywhere.
