This 1978 film consists of a short narrative demonstrating the need for observing industrial safety standards on building sites. The film’s cast of characters includes a wealthy contractor, a negligent foreman, a disgruntled safety warden, a foreign labourer and a department inspector, as they attempt to reconstruct what happened to a missing worker following a trench collapse. Each of the characters avoids responsibility in their roles and blames the others for the accident. Presented as a dramatic short with points of comedy (though this is mainly through the slapstick representation of an Italian worker who doesn’t speak English), the film emphasises the importance of all members of the workforce taking responsibility for upholding safe practices on site.
Produced by the Tasmania Film Corporation for the Department of Labour and Industry.
The colour is faded throughout the film.
