The aeroplane was invented in the early 1900s. Since then there have been only three major breakthroughs in aviation: the jet, the helicopter, and the jump jet. Traces the development of the vertical take-off jet in Britain, with some reference to developments in other countries. Narrated by Richard Maddock.
