Shows the city of Kyoto, built when Japan was under the greatest influence of China. From 1794 to 1868 it was the capital city of Japan, and today is the 1100 years old cradle of Japanese art, science and culture - a city of temples, palaces and universities and the centre for research in physics, philosophy and oriental studies. It is renowned for ceramic handicrafts, porcelain, modern Japanese painting, silk weaving and beautiful brocades.
