The story of artificial respiration and artificial circulation from the earliest times, also detailed illustrations of modern methods of mouth to mouth resuscitation and heart massage. Emphasis is placed on diagnosis and treatment; distinguishing between unconsciousness and cardiac arrest; what happens when breathing and circulation stop; how to detect conditions which cause death. Presents procedures for treating a resuscitation emergency until the victim recovers or medical help is available.
