The celebrations in Delhi on India’s national day, 26th January. The President drives in State to take the salute at a parade of armed forces, floats representing the various provinces and industries, folk dances and marching schoolchildren. Illuminations and fireworks enliven the city at night. The following day a fold dance festival shows the dances of many districts. The military ceremony of Beating the Retreat concludes the festivities.
