Muscles are the only organisms in man capable of doing mechanical work. Masses of tiny fibres comprise the muscle tissue. Diagrams illustrate how the fibres fit together and how the processes of stretching and contracting result in movement. Ballet and gymnastics demonstrate how muscles can be used.
