The story of Newcastle, New South Wales, in the year of 1945, concentrating extensively on the then, and long-time, principal industries: coal mining, iron and steel, and ship building. Briefly surveys a range of contemporary domestic architectural styles and recreational choices of the time (the beach and the race track).
