Cinemagazine item: In August 1949, Equador was devastated by a disastrous earthquake which caused 6000 deaths. The film shows UN relief measures afterwards, including rescue work and preventative measures against epidemics. An account is given of the reconstruction of houses, villages and roads, and the steps taken to check the large scale soil erosion which followed the earthquake.
