The old and the new in Papua New Guinea. The traditional way of life in the villages; trade with other villages, the belief in magic, raising garden crops, management of village affairs by the old men in secret, feasts and sing-sings, the initiation of the young men. The new ways; opportunities for education, improved health and child welfare, the introduction of cash crops and native cooperation associations, the formation of elected Local Government Councils.
