An introduction to the basic geographic concepts of eleven countries in west Europe: Britain, Belgium, the Netherlands, Western Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, France, Spain and Portugal. Presents the complexity of various countries and peoples; the dense population, the careful and varied uses of the land in relationship to the climate; the importance of manufacture and trade and also the close link between the history and geography of Europe to the western world.
