An elderly black woman, her feet swollen with arthritis, marches with pride and determination through an urban ghetto to meet her daughter. Arriving ahead of her daughter, she finds an eviction notice on the door of the apartment - only the beginning of a veritable sea of troubles which mother and daughter meet together.
