World War I: The Background

Uses historical newsreel footage to review the basic causes and international incidents which led to World War I. The militaristic and nationalistic rivalry, entangling alliances, and international tension of the prewar years, dating back to 1870; the Balkan conflict, ententes and alliances, and the Sarajevo incident, leading to the declaration of war.
