The ancient rose-red city of Jaipur and the surrounding country of Rajput. Designed on a grand scale by Jai Singh in 1728, the walled city contains many remarkable temples, gardens and palaces. Nearby is the old palace, with man]gnificent frescoes, inlay work and decorated ceilings. The fort recalls the history of Rajput and its defence against waves of invaders. The observatory built by Jai Singh; collections of manuscripts and paintings; Palace of Winds; craftsmen at work.
