Episode of Series “Inhabitants of the Planet Earth”.
A small anaesthetised earthworm is shown dissected, featuring the pumping heart. Shows peristaltic contractions which mix the food and send it along the intestinal tract. Undigested “castings” are expelled and their importance in soil ecology is discussed.
