A fascinating epic by veteran Japanese director, Kurosawa, about the struggle of hardy souls to chart the wilderness of Siberia around 1900. Remarkable photography and the performance of Munzuk as an old native hunter carry the film. Drawn from the autobiographical novels of a military explorer.
