The illegitimate daughter of a British cabinet minister, in the latter half of the 19th century, begins a new life as a lady’s maid in her real father’s household. She learns the facts of her parentage and a strong affection develops between her and her father. When his wife learns the truth and threatens a public scandal, he commits suicide. Starring James Mason and Phyllis Calvert. Based on the novel by Michael Sadleir.
