Episode number 3 of Series “A World of Festivals”.
The Moors and Christians festival of Alicoy in Alicante, Spain celebrates the defeat of the Moors by Christians after 500 years of occupation which left an indelible mark on Spanish culture and architecture. Led by a boy representing St. George, the town’s patron saint, groups of ‘crusaders’ stage a symbolic battle against the ‘moors’.
