Episode number 7 of Series “Under southern skies”.
In this episode, host Sue Henckel travels to the Gulf of Carpentaria where her guide Thancoupie, an aboriginal healer, takes her on a practical excursion revealing her traditional knowledge of plants that have been used for centuries for their medicinal properties. Thancoupie collects a variety of plants and prepares them to treat ailments such as diarrhoea, colds and tropical ulcers. She also reveals methods used by her ancestors to control their birth-rate discussing the consequences of large families in nomadic tribes.
