A kaleidoscope of fantasy about a bored middle-class woman (Giuletta Masina) who discovers she can conjure up spirits each representing a repressed desire or restrained impulse in her nature. The spirits, apparitions in various guises, provide Fellini with the perfect opportunity to exercise his strong sense of the fantastic and the bizarre.
