Based on the novel by Martin Andrew Nexos “Pelle the Conqueror” is the epic adventure of two Swedish refugees - eleven year-old Pelle and his elderly, widowed father Lasse (played by Oscar nominee Max Von Sydow). They sail to Denmark in search of a better existence but their dreams quickly fade when they realise that life is not any easier in their new country. Faced with extreme cruelty and poverty, Pelle develops an inner strength that helps him to endure the hardships. Armed with the determination to succeed, he sets out alone to conquer the world. Also stars Pelle Hvengaard, Erik Paaske, Bjorn Granath. Awarded Best Film - Cannes 1988; Best Foreign Film - Oscar 1988 Original subtitled version.
