Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s “Il re Pastore” is presented by the International Mozarteum Foundation Salzburg in association with the Landestheater Salzburg for the 1989 Mozart Week. It tells the story of Alessandro (Alexander the Great) who has freed the city of Sidon from the tyranny of Strato and decides to restore the throne to the legitimate heir. Alessandro discovers that the heir is Aminta, a shepherd. Sung in Italian. Contains Libretto by Pietro Metastasio. Performers include: Angela Maria Blasi, Sylvia McNair, Iris Vermillion, Jerry Hadley, Claes H. Ahnsjo. Academy of St Martin in the Fields (London) conducted by Sir Neville Marriner. Staged by John Cox.
