Episode of Series “Videos on Australian Writers: archival writers series II”.
Acclaimed poet Robert D. Fitzgerald describes himself as a “professional surveyor and an amateur poet”. He recalls his experiences working for the Native Lands Commission in the remote interior regions of Fiji which inspired his poem “Between two tides”. Fitzgerald remembers his friendship with fellow writers Kenneth Slessor, Jack and Phillip Lindsay, Douglas Stewart and Dame Mary Gilmore. During the Vietnam war, Fitzgerald was active in the anti-war movement. He discusses the reasons for his involvement and recalls the events surrounding the Arts Vietnam protest.
